If Microsoft decided to come out with MS Office for Linux, it would be the best thing to happen to Linux. But Microsoft is also worried since Linux threatens its core OS business.
Does Microsoft have enough reasons to support an alternative platform? Since the time Microsoft released Office for the Macintosh, it has now become the de facto Office suite on the Mac platform. It also generates a great deal of revenue for Microsoft. Right now, according to the chief executive of the Open Source Development Lab (OSDL),we know Microsoft will release a version of Office to run on Linux within the "next couple of years",. "They did it once with Apple; they will do it again with Linux," Stuart Cohen said during an interview with vnunet.com at the LinuxWorld conference in San Francicso. |
