Multiple WordPress Loops

I was recently working on a custom WordPress plugin that kind of extends the idea behind a featured content plugin.  Basically the plugin requires me to have multiple loops on the home page of the blog. Not 1, not even 2, but actually 3 loops on the home page.  Seems exhorbitant? Yes... but required for this customer.

There is very little practical advice on the net about multiple loops.  There is of course the Wordpress developer documentation.  But it really did not offer real world advice.  

I searched Google for days (ok, really hours), trying to find the right keyword search to get a great result.
